Words can fail us during a crisis. It can even be hard to think. During highly emotional and often frightening times, we are already overwhelmed. Keeping everything simple is best. Yet prayer changes things, even miraculously. So how do we make that Divine Connection in extreme situations? How do you pray during a crisis? How do you pray when you can’t even think? Prayer can be heard most tenderly, even beyond words.
The old saying “there are no atheists on a sinking ship” is an example of how we inherently desire to reach out to God when things are at their worst. When there is no hope, there is always hope. When there is no way out, the best and most comforting solution will be made available. Prayer is the key to that, even in its simplest forms.
Prayer Beyond Words
Prayer can go beyond words. When words fail you, the heart does not. Remember who you are and who he is. We already have a created link with God. The spirit within each of us is a divine Spark off of God’s original Flame. We are never separate from him, we are never alone. Like a cellphone given to a loved one, our Father already gave us a way to communicate whenever we want, and he is always available. There is no “busy” tone or dropped service with him. All it takes to “dial in” is your focused desire to reach out beyond yourself, to that possibility that he exists, that he hears you, and that he wants to help. Using your free will to let your mind reach out to God, to go well beyond your own thoughts or “higher self,” is an act of faith. And faith is a precious thing and always rewarded. Always. “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not yet seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)
In a relationship it takes a while to really know the other person. As with your mate, you spend time each other, doing things together, finding out what the other person’s likes and dislikes are, their history, their plans for the future, etc. until even when you are away from each other you know what their thoughts are. It’s the same with knowing the heart of God. You develop the confidence and inner glow that no matter what happens, he’s got you and you are loved.
For the person who has already spent years hanging out with him, prayer is a mobile sacred space of unconditional love and acceptance that encompasses you wherever you go. And whenever you think of God, your mind smiles in that embrace. That feeling of love is what opens the prayerful connection. It is a place where I choose to never hang up the phone - I choose to live in an undertone of prayer, one ear towards heaven and one to the earth. Walking in both worlds, sharing my day, asking questions, playing, working and listening, is a joyful, powerful and happy life.
Reach Out Beyond the Suffering
But for those who have not yet laid the foundation of knowing this Divine Love - beyond any restrictions presented by others - what then? First make the desire to reach out to God, then bridge the gap with one of your strongest memories of love. Perhaps it is holding your newborn child for the first time, or even the palpable tenderness of a last goodbye. Maybe it is tapping into the joy of the most exquisite sunset you’ve ever seen, or the timeless amazement of looking up at night and wondering at the myriads of stars above you. Bring into your thoughts that full, all-encompassing feeling of Love, and you will find the Maker of it smiling back at you.
Now that you have focused on that connection of love, you have pulled back the curtain that shows God was there the whole time! You know that he sees you and what you need, and what the most pressing desires of your heart are. This is why using words is only a choice. He is the true embodiment of what love is, and more complete than any former experience we have had with it on earth. When our spark is immersed into his flame, the Oneness is beyond thought, because it literally can’t be put into words. And it is in that place that nothing is held back from us and all things are possible. Such is the power of the gift of prayer.
Allow Yourself to Be Childlike
If you are able to put thoughts into words, now is the time to pour out your heart. But during times of high stress, the childlike simplicity of even “God help me” is enough! He knows what you need. He’s not bossy, he simply waits on your free will choice for him to intervene. Next he sends his Holy Angels to help you, to do what is best in your situation. Most of the time we are even offered choices and presented with what the best one would be. This happens at a spiritual level, beyond the confusion of a stressed brain.
Depending on the situation, sometimes help comes as a miraculous healing, or people directed to find or rescue you, the storm evading you, or a myriad of other possibilities. And sometimes the best choice is leaving the body, taking the hand of a Holy Angel and coming back to God. Please remember, God always pulls the spirit out of the body beforehand if death is imminent, to ease suffering. He does this with people and also with animals. Remember this when you see or hear of deaths by fire, or other terrible situations. There is no need to fear. We have an amazing and compassionate God.
“I Love You.” After a phone call or at the end of a letter, many chose to end their conversations with loved ones with these words. In life and death situations, it’s often these words many want to express as a last sentiment to husbands, wives, children, parents and friends. We want to show gratitude for our time spent together, to let them know how we feel about them, to let them know we appreciate them and they are loved. So why not, in this place of tender prayer, express those same feelings to God? Love and gratitude moves mountains. And it’s also a nice thing to do.
Love and Gratitude
Our Heavenly Father feels things deeply and perfectly, and he has gone through a lot to continue to make himself available to us. Even in the midst of our original parents making bad choices that humanity has had to suffer with, the way was made for our darkness to be transformed back into light. But that Redemption was given at great sacrifice. How wonderful it is then, when we can show our appreciation by saying “Thank You,” and ending our prayers in recognition of this, as “in the name of Jesus, Amen.” (John 14:1-31) Can you imagine the pain a perfect being feels? But he allowed it, because it was the greater choice for love to help the most people, and because of that a door opened for all, whether how it happened is recognized or not. Love is self-less and kind. So when we have our Great Loved One on the phone of prayer, let your appreciation show.
So there you have it, how simple prayer can be, even when we can’t think. With words or without, knowing God well or just beginning to, prayer is the key to situations changing dramatically in our favor. Our heart is heard, our love recognized, our needs met in the situation for our highest good. All it takes is our free will desire and a little faith to reach out. Put this opportunity to receive Love on speed-dial. And then, be realistic - expect a miracle! END 2025 (C)Tiffany Snow
