Praising God Combats Our Own Spiritual Amnesia

When we praise God we aren’t filling a void in Him; we are filling the void in ourselves.

God is self-sufficient and does not depend on human beings for anything, including validation or energy. He existed in perfect love and community before the cosmos was ever made. God does not need our praise because He is already entirely self-sufficient, complete, and lacking nothing. When we praise God, we aren't filling a void in Him. Instead, praise is designed for our benefit — it raises our vibration and aligns our hearts to our Creator, and unlocks the joy, peace and deeper connection we were created to experience.

We were built to worship our Heavenly Father and His son Jesus. “The God who made the world and everything in it — He is Lord of heaven and earth — does not live in shrines made by hands. Neither is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He himself gives everyone life and breath and all things.” (Acts 17:24,25)

Here are some benefits and scriptures about what praising God actually does for us:

Psalm 100:4: "Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!"

Psalm 16:11: "You reveal the path of life to me; in your presence is abundant joy; at your right hand are eternal pleasures.”

• Benefit: Praise helps us hear Divine guidance and acts as the direct pathway into active communion with God's presence

Isaiah 61:3: "...to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair."

Psalm 42:11: "Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God."

• Benefit: Choosing to praise replaces mental heaviness and sadness with spiritual joy and shifts your focus back to the hope and promises of God.

Acts 16:25–26: "About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose."

Psalm 63:3–5: "Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live... I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you."

• Benefit: Worship in difficult situations strengthens the soul and acts as a spiritual weapon that breaks physical and emotional bondage and brings breakthrough. Praising God satisfies the inner longings of the human soul.

  
  

Be careful that nothing else gets put into that God-spot except God - praising anything or anyone else only clogs up our ability to connect with Him and only brings sadness and emptiness instead of joy and fulfillment. No material items, no celebrities or anyone or anything else can successfully fill the God-spot we were created with. Our worship and praise expands and magnifies our connection with the one who made the cosmos. The One who made us and knows us better than we know ourselves.

When we choose to praise our Heavenly Father and His son Jesus, we are stepping into the supernatural order of heaven and letting His power fan the embers of faith and prayer back into a brilliant, roaring bonfire. Choose today to let your life be an offering of true worship, stepping out of the monotony and into the vibrant, soul-expanding joy that only comes from honoring Him. As you carry this spirit of praise into your daily walk, you will find that your heart stays anchored in hope amid global chaos, your spirit stays bright, and your soul remains fully satisfied in His presence and easily expands into a greater connection.
