Prayer and fasting have been a successful combination for thousands of years. Both develop the qualities of going beyond ourselves and believing in future changes that haven’t happened yet. “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) Our bodies were actually created to incorporate fasting into our daily lives, for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.
Jesus himself fasted. “Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus refused, and successfully passed all the tests Satan threw at him.(Matthew 4:1-3) During his 40 days, Jesus drank water but had no food. It was right before he began the bulk of his powerful public ministry. Beforehand, he wanted to put everything else aside and just spend time communing with God.
Miracle Healing Without Fasting
I myself have incorporated water fasting into my life now for many years. During this time I have lost 175 pounds and healed from type 2 diabetes, HBP and a heart attack. Three of these problems came from the side effects I had while dying in bed from leukemia. But God gave me a miracle, and fully healed me from stage 4 leukemia, even without me choosing to do any medical intervention or chemotherapy (but God can use doctors and medicines to heal too).
Literally in one night I went from my husband crying next to me in bed as I was slipping away, to waking up and getting out of bed (I had been in a wheelchair or in bed for months). Then I walked outside and re-baptized myself in the farm pond, praising God and vowing one again to continue to do God’s Will as long as he needed me to. I knew in my soul that the deep sadness I had felt about miscarrying our baby had triggered me getting leukemia and wanting to be with her. But the Homing Angel (“Angel of death”) stayed on the other side of the room. The deep sadness was now manageable, and I felt peace. God wasn’t done with me yet - my story needed another chapter.
But even after the miracle healing, the weight remained and the diabetes and HBP remained. I didn’t use fasting, I didn’t even know about it, because God doesn’t need anything to heal people, expect his love and his desire to do so. He desires to heal! He wants everyone to know that he exists and loves each one of us, and wants us to be at our best to complete our life’s missions. But God is big on free will, and especially if there are mental, emotional or spiritual challenges that the person needs to address, fasting brings the clarity to do be able to do it. And during this human choice to abstain from food, the body also takes a rest from digestion and transfers its fuel source from sugars and carbohydrates to fats and ketones. The body is still sustaining and feeding itself, just from where has changed.
Abstaining from food is intentional fasting using your own bodily resources. Starving is when your body has no more resources available. There is a big difference. During water fasting many beneficial physical changes occur besides weight loss - autophagy eats up any damaged, wrongly folded or misshaped cells and helps clean out things not healthy in the body. We were actually created to incorporate water fasting into our lives to help our whole being, a periodic “re-set.” God has likened it to the The Sabbath Year and the Year of Jubilee in the scriptures. “…But in the seventh year the land is to have a year of sabbath rest, a sabbath to the Lord.” (Leviticus 25:1-12). The length of a fast is personal, whether it be hours or days, and should be led by paying attention to your body and to how you are led by God.
Miracle Healing With Fasting
It would take a heart attack to introduce me to fasting. I was sitting down for several hours working on a house project, when I heard his voice tell me to get up and walk around. Since I was only about 10 minutes from finishing, I said “No, not yet, just a few minutes more.” A few minutes later I felt a huge pain in my chest, broke into a cold sweat and got extremely dizzy. I was having a heart attack. It is never good to put off God or the intuition he stimulates to “do it later.” He gives you warnings when he does for a reason. I went and laid down on the bed and got worse and worse over the next several days. I refused to go to a hospital, knowing that God could heal me himself if he wished, and also because death is also a big healing and I have been “homesick” ever since my first NDE. I was ready, I had already accomplished many of the things he had given me to do, including the sharing of information and the special prayers (The Divine Decrees) given through my time of Holy Stigmata. So to hasten things along, I did not eat or drink. I was fasting but didn’t think of it as that. I just wanted to go home, and thought that would make it quicker.
Meanwhile, God wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing. I was choosing to die. It wasn’t HIS choice, I still had more work to do. I started feeling guilty and craving water. Not food, just something to drink. DRY fasting was killing me, it was already six days and I knew I wouldn’t be alive much longer, because I was going in and out of consciousness. Father offered me a longer future here. “Drink water” he said. A simple step. I didn’t want to ignore him again, and I started to equate my choice of not drinking water to suicide, which I could not in all faith do. Father still wanted me to stay here, and he also wanted to give me another spiritual gift, although I didn’t know that at the time. I called in my husband and drank water.
I was in bed for another two weeks. I prayed and water fasted. Every day I could feel my mind, clarity, confidence and resolve to receive healing getting stronger. Fasting can open our free will better to receive Divine healing. I started allowing myself to be healed. Then the bad breath that occurs with diabetes started going away. All during this time I had had no metformin (I am not suggesting this - talk with your doctor, it usually has to be monitored while you fast or it can bring your blood sugar too low). I started checking my blood sugar again, and it stayed between 50-60.
The pressure in my chest and the irregular heartbeats calmed down and went away. I was able to get up with less and less dizziness and soon was walking around the house. Altogether, I had fasted for about 3 weeks, and just now started to feel hungry. I started to break my fast and begin refeeding with bone broth with egg whipped in. Then over the course of a few days, I added into the broth soft vegetables. Then side dishes of sardines or tuna, salad, and nuts. I also found out this way that my body does best without dairy, and on less grains and low carbohydrates. I was feeling great! Then I made a doctor appointment.
Normal Test Results
Even though I knew in my heart (LOL!) that I was good now, I wanted to see the numbers, have a blood panel done, check my A1C and hypertension and share with the doctor how I was healed - through prayer and fasting. She could have proof and help others under her care. I told her I would be adding water fasting and eating low carb into my lifestyle. I wasn’t led to tell the doctor about the heart attack - I didn’t want her to do unneeded tests to prove something happened when now there would be no effect from it. My tests would speak for themselves about the issues she already knew. My results came back normal. NORMAL A1C, NORMAL blood pressure (I requested they take the reading again at the end of my office visit, since in my excitement it was high when I first got there)! And a great blood panel except my cholesterol had gone up - a common short-term effect because broken fat cells release cholesterol as a byproduct into the blood stream for a while. No worries!
I had also lost about 25 pounds. She wasn’t impressed and made sure to tell me so. She chose to only acknowledge the first HBP test and told me to continue medication. She said fasting was dangerous, and low carb was not sustainable and a fad diet. She was angry with me for stopping my meds and refused to acknowledge the test results when they came back a few days later. She had a secretary call me. I was to continue my metformin, that “the A1C test was 5.6 (normal - instead of 8.9). It is not accurate. Reschedule in 3 months, meanwhile keep on the metformin.” It’s not the first time doctors had been totally confused and lashed out after a miracle healing. In my mind I felt sorry for her, and forgave her. Father would give her more chances to see who The Doctor really he is, I was just one opportunity. But it always makes me sad to see an opportunity not taken advantage of.
Biblical Examples of Water Fasting and Prayer
Besides Jesus, others throughout the scriptures fasted regularly. There were religious festivals centered on fasting to atone for sins and become closer to God. Fasting was used during mourning, “Then they took their bones and buried them under a tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.” (1 Samuel 31:13) Fasting was used to hear God more clearly for religious appointments. “Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust.” (Acts 14:23)
Anna, a prophetess, spent most of her life fasting and praying in her worship. She was at the temple in Jerusalem when Joseph and Mary brought in the infant Jesus to be consecrated to God. Father gifted her with prophesying about who this child was and what he would become. “There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.” (Luke 2:36-38)
When the apostles were unsuccessful in casting out a demon in a young boy, Jesus told them to add fasting to their prayers. “And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.” (Mark 9:14-29 KJV) They needed the spiritual fortitude, faith, surrender and confidence that fasting would bring, so that they could feel that lightness of the body and spirit in connection with God. Then God could answer their intercessory prayers better. They were ready. They were more willing to receive his greater power, without restriction. It takes determination and sacrifice to fast. It takes us out of our comfort zone, it creates hunger pains for a few days until the body adapts. It takes faith that it is worth doing. Adding fasting to prayer does the same for us today.
Modern Examples and Research on Fasting
Now days there is more and more research available online about water fasting, various studies and a lot of books and personal experiences. Very few of these mention prayer in the equation, or the variability necessary of the one fasting to be led by God about timing and duration. So it has been fascinating to me to read how successful the results are with fasting alone, but that aligns to what Father has mentioned, that he created to body to be rested periodically and self-healed by fasting. But as God has continuously shown over the years, when prayerful connection is made with him - that is where the real power and miracles happen, whether we are fasting or not. But fasting certainly can help the person’s free will relax into God to receive better.
As for me, I never started medications again, and never returned to that office. I have continued to lose weight and I have no other health problems. Altogether now I fast about a hundred days a year, but that’s just me. If you choose to fast, it will most certainly be something entirely different for you. I’ve gone up to 30 days in a row, but mostly do 7-10 days at a time, with gentle refeeding in between. I only fast during the late fall to the end of winter, because that’s the timing God suggested for me. I add electrolytes and salt to my water, and also drink black coffee and tea. I add a daily multivitamin. That’s it. The rest of the year I stay organic and low carb, I eat a huge fresh salad with a variety of vegetables everyday, and have fish, nuts, olive and avocado oils. I will taste other things if I want to, but usually not make a meal out of them. When I don’t fast, I miss fasting! It is an additional sweet time with Father, with a lot of writing being done.
God Wants You to Heal! Fasting Can Help Your Mind Receive It
In my health adventures, I have been reminded over and over again that Father may not choose to save you from situations, but can, with your free will connection with him (prayer), help get you out of them. It’s all about the greater aspect of polishing the facets of love in your spirit, not always about the physical healing. But so very often that comes with it! So especially if you are fighting your own mind about receiving healing, spend some time water fasting. For example, if you are fighting an addiction, healing needs to go beyond Father cleansing your cells of drugs, nicotine, alcohol, etc. Healing also needs to be a free will choice of the mind to let go of these negative things that have comforted you; of what has numbed you; of what has distracted you. Fasting is a free will choice to step out and meet God and your inner self on another level. And to allow yourself to receive love, and be healed physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually or all three. Much success to you! END 2024 (C) Tiffany Snow
